Disclosed is cleaning apparatus 10 for use with the external surface 12 of a vehicle, the cleaning apparatus 10 comprising at least one barrier layer 16 having a transparent covering portion 36 that at least partially covers the external surface 12 when the apparatus is fitted to the vehicle and when the barrier layer 16 is in a protective position; a displacement means 18 capable of displacing the barrier layer 16 away from the protective position; and a cleaning means 20 arranged to clean at least a portion of the barrier layer 16 when the barrier layer 16 is displaced away from the protective position. The displacement means 18 may be a roller or pair of rollers 18a,18b; the cleaning means 20 may be a rotatable brush 20a,20b partially submerged in a cleaning fluid. Also disclosed (see figure 4) is protective apparatus for an external surface of a vehicle, the apparatus comprising at least one barrier layer having first and second protective positions. |
