<p>The present invention relates to a radio altimeter which includes a path extension unit which is inserted and installed in the transmission path or reception path of a radio altimeter, wherein the path extension unit includes an electro-optical (E/O) converter for converting an RF signal into an optical signal, an optical cable which is inserted into the path as long as a predetermined length for extending the optical path and an opto-electronic (O/E) converter for converting the optical signal outputted from the optical cable into an RF signal. According to the present invention, not only the limit on the pulse width or the frequency limit of parts are able to be overcome by providing a sufficiently extended path using an optical cable, but also the universality of measurement instruments is able to be improved by effectively providing a wide range of measurement from a short distance to a mid to long distance through any type of radio altimeter regardless of the measurement technique.
