A digital photographing apparatus and a method of controlling the apparatus are provided to automatically change a photographing mode or a shutter speed when an object is moved to obtain a stabilized picture. A digital photographing apparatus includes a shutter input unit(101), a digital signal processor(50), a motion detector(81), a shutter speed controller(82), and a photographing mode controller(83). The shutter input unit inputs a shutter which recognizes an object. The digital signal processor generates first image data corresponding to the object in a preview mode and inputs the shutter to generate second image data corresponding to the object. The motion detector detects a motion of the object from the first image data and the second image data. The shutter speed controller controls a shutter speed according to the motion detector. The photographing mode controller sets a continuous photographing mode or a one-time photographing mode according to the motion detector. |
