The sensor (10) has an explosion-protected housing (1) manufactured from steel and provided for transmission and display of optically displayed operating conditions of explosive gases to the environment. Light emitting diodes (3) are arranged on an inner side of a light-transmissive disk (4) in the housing, and a light conductor (5) for lighting coupling of the diode is arranged on an outer side of the disk. The light conductor runs to an outer surface of the housing and made from polymethacrylate or polycarbonate.
