Disclosed are a promoting method and device for a ring back tone, which relate to the field of communications and are used for solving the problem that the contact manner between an existing ring back tone system and a CP system is relatively monotonous, a CP only provides a ring back tone content to be promoted, and the CP still fails to participate in the determination of a promoting subscriber population of a ring back tone. The method provided in the present invention includes: receiving a ring back tone promoting request sent by a content provider (CP), the ring back tone promoting request including a ring back tone provided by the CP and user group information specified to be promoted by the CP; distributing a user group to the ring back tone promoting request according to the user population information specified to be promoted by the CP; promoting the ring back tone provided by the CP to the user group, and recording use information of the ring back tone; and determining a fee to be charged from the CP according to the use information of the ring back tone in combination with a preset pricing mechanism. The present invention is applicable to the field of communications and is used to realize promotion of the ring back tone service.
