The present invention relates to a system and method for providing an image contents sharing service using a client terminal. The system for providing an image contents sharing service using a client terminal according to the present invention comprises a fingerprint extraction server for extracting fingerprints for image contents; a contents recognition server for distinguishing image information corresponding to a query signal requested from a client terminal; and a contents supply server for transmitting to the client terminal an image or image data for the distinguished image information, wherein the client terminal shares, through a contents sharing system, the image or image data for a user-selected portion based on the received image or image data.
