Disclosed herein too is a flame retardant composition comprising a polyphenylene ether, a polyphenylene ether-polysiloxane copolymer, or a combination comprising at least one of the foregoing polymers; an impact modifier; and a phosphazene flame retardant. Disclosed herein too is a method comprising blending a polyphenylene ether, a polyphenylene ether-polysiloxane copolymer, or a combination comprising at least one of the foregoing polymers; an impact modifier; and a phosphazene flame retardant.
