401,933. Cylinders. HORST, H. VAN DER, 22, Alexanderlaan, Hilversum, Holland. Feb. 21, 1933, No. 5273. Drawings to Specification. [Class 7 (ii).] A hard wearing surface is provided on a cylinder bore, after it has been ground smooth, by electrolytically-depositing thereon a coating of chromium of uniform thickness. After the deposition, the block is heated at a temperature between 150‹ C. and 300‹ C. for a period between ¢ and 2 hours to eject hydrogen occluded in the deposit which should be thick enough-e.g. 3 to 6 thousandths of an inchto allow subsequent grinding. When plating the bores of a cylinder block, separate from the crank-case, the anodes for several bores are carried by a jig or frame which holds them in alignment with the inverted bores and is mounted above and insulated from the bath.
