PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a specific surface area adjusting material capable of adjusting a specific surface area of a powdery or porous CeZrOmaterial comparatively inexpensively with less dispersion compared to the prior art, a method for producing the powdery or porous CeZrOmaterial using the same, and a catalyst device for automobile exhaust gas purification.SOLUTION: According to a specific surface area adjusting material 18 added to CeZrOpowder 16a, the specific surface area adjusting material 18 includes zirconia sol 18a containing zirconia particles having the average particle diameter of 1-10 nm and a cerium nitrate solution 18b, and a mixed solution thereof is mixed with the CeZrOpowder 16a, allowed to gel, and then calcined, to thereby adjust the specific surface area of the CeZrOpowder 16a. |
