PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a gas sensor element, which can suppress occurrence of cracks in an element body including an irregularity formed on an outer surface and can efficiently manufacture a hight quality gas sensor element.SOLUTION: There is provided a manufacturing method of the gas sensor element which comprises: the element body including irregularities formed on an outer surface closer to a tip side than a flange part and a tip-facing surface of the flange part; an outside electrode; a lead electrode; and an inner electrode. The manufacturing method includes: a coating step for coating at least the outer surface closer to a tip side than the flange part and the tip-facing surface of the flange part of a bottomed cylindrical unfired compact having the flange part, with a paste containing particles for making irregularities; a drying step for drying the paste after the coating step; a firing step for firing the unfired compact after the drying step, to obtain the element body; and a gas spray step for spraying a gas to a connection part between the outer surface of the unfired compact closer to the tip side than the flange part and the tip-facing surface of the flange part of the unfired compact in at least part of a period from the end of the coating step to the end of the drying step. |
