The invention relates to an electrochemical energy accumulator, in particular a lithium-ion battery, comprising a cell chamber (1) in which at least one anode, at least one cathode and an electrolyte, arranged between an anode and a cathode, are arranged. At least one current arrester (2) connected to the at least one anode and at least one current arrester (3) connected to the at least one cathode are provided to tap electric energy. A material (5) which can be fluidized is arranged on at least one current arrester (2, 3), a fluidic connection being established between said material and the inside of the cell chamber (1). Said material is fluidized at a temperature which lies in a defined threshold value. Said threshold value is at a defined distance above an operating temperature of the at least one current arrester (2, 3). It is possible to efficiently prevent a thermal runway with said type of energy accumulator, no significant modification of traditional energy accumulators being required. |
