The tool has an actuation arm (68) connected between a first elongated finger (70) and a second elongated finger (72) at a first elevation along the elongated fingers, where the elevation is spaced from a second elevation and from ends of the fingers. Connection of the arm between the fingers, is configured to move the first elongated finger in one of two lateral directions. The fingers are arranged relative to an axis of a tube or thru-hole (64, 66). One of the fingers is forced against an inner wall of the tube or thru-hole and held in a position until the arm is positively released. An independent claim is also included for a method for supporting a tool from an underside of a heat exchange tubesheet.
