[Problem] To be able to obtain measurement data only for snow accretion or windstorms while observing weather conditions or the like periodically, and ascertain any signs that may lead to a power transmission line accident. [Solution] A power transmission line monitoring apparatus comprises: a power supply; a measurement unit that measures at least temperature and wind velocity; a storage unit that stores measurement data including the temperature and the wind velocity measured by the measurement unit; and a timing control unit that for each prescribed measurement period supplies power from the power supply to the measurement unit and starts-up the measurement unit. When a state wherein the measured temperature stays within a prescribed temperature range continues for a first prescribed duration of time, the measurement unit sets the measurement mode thereof to a first measurement mode and causes the storage unit to begin storing measurement data, and when the measured wind velocity is equal to or greater than a prescribed value, the measurement unit sets the measurement mode thereof to a second measurement mode and causes the storage unit to begin storing measurement data.
