PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector capable of more enhancing contrast in comparison with a conventional projector.SOLUTION: A projector comprises: an illumination device for emitting light; a transmission type light modulation device for modulating the light from the illumination device in response to image information; and a projection optical system for projecting light from the light modulation device as a projection image. The light modulation device has a light passing section 410G that can modulate light while transmitting the light therethrough and a light shielding section 420G for not transmitting the light therethrough. The light shielding section 420G has a stray light reflection section 422G for reflecting stray light made incident to the light modulation device from a light emission side of the light modulation device outside an uptake angle range of the projection optical system or a stray light absorption section for performing reflection and absorption of the stray light a plurality of times. |
