An electrically powered liquid heating vessel comprising means for illuminating a feature (831, 185) on a substantially transparent or translucent body (830) of the vessel by projecting or diffusing a light on to an end (835) of the transparent or translucent vessel body (830) and an illumination assembly (832) is provided through or beneath an element plate (12) of the vessel, whereby the element plate (12) comprises a peripheral channel 12g for receiving the free end of the vessel body (830) and the peripheral channel 12g of the element plate (12) comprises a sealant material for securing and sealing the free end (835) of the vessel body (830) within the peripheral channel 12g.
