A spacer has first and second spacer portions, a faceplate on an electrical fitting is unfastened and moved to expose a gap between the faceplate and the wall, and the first and second spacer portions are introduced into the gap and joined. The spacer thus bridges the gap between the faceplate and the wall such that there is reduced risk of getting any decoration on the faceplate whilst ensuring there are no exposed wires of the electrical fitting.
