The device (2) has soil compactors (4, 4') comprising tamper strips (5, 5') that execute striking-upward and downward movements. The soil compactors with the tamper strips are arranged one after another in a working direction (3). The tamper strips are adjustable in terms of lifting height and/or lifting position during operation. The soil compactors comprise respective drive devices (6, 6') such that the soil compactors are operated independent to each other. Each soil compactor is adjustable on a ramming frequency about 200-1600 strokes per minute.
