Provided are: a touch panel system that enables precise detection, in distinction from noise, of the position of an indicator; an electronic information device provided with the touch panel system; and an indicator position detection method capable of application to the touch panel system. An indicator position detection unit (14) detects the position of the indicator, which contacts or is near a detection surface (P), on the basis of a first capacity signal (Ci1) obtained in a first drive mode in which a first drive signal (Di1) output by a drive unit (11) is provided to first signal lines (FL1-FLm), and in which a first sense signal (Si1) that appears in a second signal line (BL) is provided to a sense signal processing unit (12), and/or a second capacity signal (Ci2) obtained in a second drive mode in which a second drive signal (Di2) output by the drive unit (11) is provided to second signal lines (BL1-BLm), and in which a second sense signal (Si2) that appears in the first signal lines (FL1-FLm) is provided to the sense signal processing unit (12).
