The actuator (10) has a cylinder (14) with an input port, and a piston (12) arranged partially within the cylinder. Circumferential grooves (16) are arranged in one of the piston or the cylinder. Piston rings (20) are arranged in the circumferential grooves such that a gap is formed between a diameter of the piston rings and a diameter of the grooves. A spring is provided on a high pressure face of the piston rings such that the spring preloads the piston rings to seal between a low pressure face of the piston rings and a low pressure face of the grooves. An independent claim is also included for a method for moving an adjustable seal in a radial direction. |
