PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for modifying an artificial bone for improving biocompatibility and bone conduction by performing efficient plasma treatment of the surface of a porous hydroxyapatite type artificial bone and the surface of inner pores thereof; and to provide an artificial bone modified by this method.SOLUTION: A method for modifying an artificial bone is used to obtain modified artificial bones 101-104. The method includes a plasma treatment step of performing plasma treatment to bone-reactivate the surface and inside of a porous hydroxyapatite type artificial bone 200. The plasma treatment step is a treatment step with plasma using a gas containing at least oxygen atoms, and is executed in a depressurized condition.
