摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a subject information obtaining apparatus and a subject information obtaining method capable of more highly accurately obtaining an optical characteristic value in photoacoustic imaging.SOLUTION: This subject information obtaining apparatus has: an acoustic wave detector including acoustic wave detection elements each for detecting a photoacoustic wave generated by irradiating a subject with light and outputting a detection signal; an initial-sound-pressure obtaining section for obtaining an initial sound pressure in a region of interest in the subject on the basis of the detection signals; a light quantity value obtaining section for obtaining a corrected light quantity in the region of interest on the basis of weighting coefficients based on sensitivity distributions of the acoustic wave detection elements and a light quantity of the light with which the region of interest is irradiated; and an optical-characteristic-value obtaining section for obtaining an optical characteristic value in the region of interest on the basis of the initial sound pressure and the corrected light quantity value in the region of interest.
