The present invention relates to methods that manipulate the level of interaction between the proteins Hsp70 and IRE1alpha. In particular, the invention relates to methods of manipulating this interaction in order to increase protein yield, and to methods of manipulating this interaction in order to treat diseases associated with abnormal apoptotic activity, including cancer and autoimmune diseases.
