PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic device capable of determining whether to limit use of information stored in a storage medium or not without requiring a unique authentication number to be written into the storage medium before factory shipment.SOLUTION: When a compatible memory card with a paid program update file stored therein is inserted and neither the memory card nor an EEPROM of a control unit has an authentication number file (S10: YES), an authentication number input screen is displayed to let a user enter an authentication number which is stored in the EEPROM of the control unit and the memory card. When power is turned on and if an authentication number stored in a memory card do not match the authentication number stored in the EEPROM of the control unit (S60: NO), the memory card is not allowed to update data and programs stored in the EEPROM of the control unit. |
