The purpose of the present invention is to provide a spark plug which has a tip on at least either a center electrode or a ground electrode, is resistant to wear even if the noble metal content in the tip is reduced to an amount smaller than is in conventional spark plugs, and is durable by maintaining a spark discharge gap between the center electrode and the ground electrode. This spark plug includes a center electrode, a ground electrode arranged with a gap from the center electrode, and a tip provided on the leading end of the ground electrode and/or the leading end of the center electrode which are opposite each other. The tip contains an element group M (M is at least one type among Pt and Rh) of 3 to 35 mass%, and an element group L (L is at least one type among Ir, Ru, and Pd) of 0 to 15 mass%. The total content of the element group M and the element group L is 35 mass% at most, and the total content of Ni, the element group M, and the element group L is at least 94 mass%.
