[Classes 7(ii) and 7(iii)] In an engine having a pre-combustion chamber 4 to which liquid fuel but particularly dust fuel is admitted, the chamber projects with a recess in the piston and one or more annular recesses 2 are located between the chamber and the cylinder wall. The recesses may be wholly in the cylinder head or in the piston and their function is to provide air pockets to force dust, fuel and other deleterious combustion residues away from the cylinder wall.
