The cam adjustment mechanism (1) has centrifugal weights that are in operative relationship with an intake cam (4) that is rotatably mounted on the shaft (2). The centrifugal weights are deflected at a corresponding rotational speed of the shaft to adjust the intake cam relative to the exhaust cam. The centrifugal force is dependent switched by the centrifugal weights to change the blocking direction and to adjust the free-wheel (5) between the intake cam and the shaft.
