PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem caused in the event of disconnection or short circuit in a pulse output type air flow sensor, wherein a signal shows an extremely abnormal value in the succeeding sampling period, and, even if a determination time is shortened as much as possible, an engine failure occurs and shifting to a fail safe operation is not possible.SOLUTION: An intake air quantity measurement device of an engine includes a second air quantity calculation means for calculating an air quantity in the event of an abnormality based on a cycle, a frequency or an intake air quantity immediately before it is determined that a temporary abnormality has occurred during a period from the time when the temporary abnormality has occurred in an air flow sensor to the time when it is determined that a failure has occurred in the air flow sensor, and a third air quantity calculation means for calculating an air quantity in the event of a failure as a substitute using an engine load parameter other than the intake air quantity, such as a throttle position, and an engine speed after it is determined that a failure has occurred in the air flow sensor. |
