The device (1) has a bearing support (2) axially moveably connected with thermal compensating elements (3) made of steel, and adjustment screws. An extension element is pressurized in an assembly state and made of fluoroelastomer or thermoplastic elastomer. The bearing support pushes away radially in a receiving bore of a gear housing (7) to retain a radial force component of a taper roller bearing (6). A supporting structure for the extension element is provided to the adjustment screw either by a blind hole or by an annular groove of the bearing support.
