The plastic container (1) has a main body (4) adjoining a base area (2) and extending in a longitudinal direction (L) of the container. A shoulder area (6) adjoins the body in the longitudinal direction. A mouth area (8) adjoins the shoulder area in the longitudinal direction. A gripping area (10) is formed between the body and a container mouth (12) of the mouth area along the longitudinal direction, and has a smaller external cross section than a mean external cross section of the shoulder area. A bead area (14) has indentations (24) to compensate pressure differences inside the container. The plastic container is formed in an elliptical shape or a polygonal shape. An independent claim is also included for a method for filling a plastic container.
