PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a speckle reduction method which is suitable especially for a scanning type display device and also to provide a scanning type display device by which the speckle reduction method is achieved.SOLUTION: A scanning type display device includes: at least one of light sources for emitting coherent light; and a light scanning part having a scan mirror 4 for scanning light emitted by a light source part on a screen 6 by reflection and a rotation part for rotating the scan mirror 4. This display device also includes a depolarization element 5 having emission polarization distribution having a polarization state of an outgoing beam continuously changed within an element surface. In a light path until the light emitted by the light source part reaches the screen 6, the depolarization element 5 is arranged to change an optical polarization state and light converted to have polarization distribution, in which the polarization state is continuously changed, in a beam diameter to perform scanning on the screen. |
