PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a promotor for inducing melanocyte differentiation having an effect in promoting and inducing differentiation of a stem cell to a melanocyte, and also to provide an external preparation containing the same which is excellent in gray hair preventing and improving effect and skin blackening effect.SOLUTION: Extracts of sea weeds belonging to genus Laminaria and genus Undaria include an excellent promoting effect of inducing melanocyte differentiation and a promoting effect for melanin synthesis by promoting the induction of melanocyte differentiation. An external preparation for the head hair containing one, two or more kinds of extracts of sea weeds selected from genus Laminaria and genus Undaria has excellent gray hair preventing and improving effect, and an external preparation for the skin is excellent in skin blackening effect.
