PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the variation of brightness occurring during movement of barrier display in a barrier liquid crystal device for use in a parallax barrier system to achieve observation of a comfortable stereoscopic image.SOLUTION: An electrode of a barrier panel 5 comprises a common electrode 20 and a plurality of split electrodes 11 to 16. A square wave is supplied to the common electrode 20 as a common electrode waveform, and split electrodes in an on state are supplied with a square wave having a phase opposite to that of the common electrode waveform, as an on waveform, and split electrodes in an off state are supplied with a square wave having the same phase as the common electrode waveform, as an off waveform. When a waveform supplied to split electrodes changed from the on state to the off state is switched from the on waveform to the off waveform at a time T, a waveform supplied to split electrodes changed from the off state to the on state is switched from the off waveform to the on waveform 1 to 20 ms after the time T. |
