The base (2) has a lower surface (20) provided on a support surface (3) e.g. ironing table. A wireless laundry iron (1) rests on an elongated soleplate (21) during inactive ironing phases to allow energy exchange between the base and the laundry iron. The elongated soleplate comprises a dome shaped or hemispherical shaped emboss (25) on which an ironing soleplate (10) of the laundry iron rests when the laundry iron is cooperated on the base for recharging the laundry iron. The emboss is partially covered with an antifriction coating e.g. PTFE or silicon. An independent claim is also included for an ironing apparatus comprising a wireless laundry iron.
