PURPOSE: A current leakage detecting device and method are provided to detect the generation of current leakage from a monitoring object in real time by using a thermal camera, thereby preventing damage to human lives and spreading of the current leakage. CONSTITUTION: A current leakage detecting device includes a thermal camera (100), a setting part (200), a current leakage determining part (300), and an alarm part (400). The thermal camera records a thermal image of at least one monitoring object region. The identification information, allowed temperature, and recording cycle for the monitoring object region are set up at the setting part. The current leakage determining part measures the temperature of the recorded thermal image and determines that a current leaks from a monitoring object if the measured temperature exceeds a reference value. The alarm part outputs a result of the current leakage determination with an alarm.
