Embodiments of the present invention relate to a data transmission method and access points, the data transmission method comprising: identifying target bits in the Traffic Indication Map(TIM); negating a part or all of the target bits; compressing the TIM with TIM compression and obtaining the compressed TIM; transmitting the compressed TIM to a station; when the target bit is an unused bit, the unused bit comprises a bit corresponding to Association Identification (AID) of the stations which meet the following condition: the station corresponding to the AID informs the Access Point (AP) that the station does not need a TIM indication. According to the embodiments of the present invention, the unused bit or delay bit is used for assisting bit compression of the TIM, further reducing the TIM redundancy bits and improving compression effect, thus improving transmission efficiency of the TIM, reducing cost of the AP and improving performance of the network system.
