PURPOSE: An image display device and an image display method are provided to automatically determine a multi-view or 3D without a request of a user, set a corresponding mode, and display a corresponding image. CONSTITUTION: A content processing unit (200) receives a content and the additional information of the content and determines the type of the content according to the additional information. If the received content is a 3D content, a control unit (210) sets an operation mode of a display device as a 3D mode. If the received content is a multi-view content, the control unit sets the operation mode as a multi-view mode. A display unit (220) displays 'image data which is included in the content' in a 3D frame or a multi-view frame according to the set operation mode.
