The machine has separation devices (19) connected with a metering balance (28) that activates the separation devices, so that a portion (18) of a thread reaches a preset weight value. A metering unit (4) comprises a control balance (30) that is arranged downstream after the separation devices along a path (D). The metering unit tests whether weight of partial pieces manufactured by the separation devices corresponds to a predetermined weight reference value. The metering unit contains a contact-less measuring device. An independent claim is also included for a method for forming partial pieces made of a fiber material.
