PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lubricant additive having excellent asphaltene dispersibility.SOLUTION: A lubricant additive is used for obtaining a trunk piston marine engine lubricating oil composition for a medium-speed four-stroke compression-ignited marine engine. The lubricant additive includes: a small mount of an overbased metal hydrocarbyl-substituted hydroxybenzoate detergent which is dispersed in a diluent including 10 mass% or more of a basestock containing 90% or more saturates and 0.03% or less sulphur; and a predominant amount of an oil having lubricating viscosity. |
