The filter system (20) has branches (13,14) that are respectively arranged in air flow direction in front of a filter (2) and behind the filter and are brought together in a common channel (17) opened into an inlet opening (19). Two measuring units (3,4) measure the properties of air flowing into the filter through the respective branches. The branches (13) are locked by a channel flap (8), and the common channel is locked by a channel flap (9). The control of the channel flaps is carried out based on the properties of the flowing air, measured using the measuring units. An independent claim is included for method for controlling filter system.
