The invention provides a heat-shrinkable polyester film which is excellent in tearability along perforations and in break resistance after storage when used as a label for beverage bottles. The invention relates to a heat-shrinkable polyester film which is made of a polyester resin comprising ethylene terephthalate as the main constituent and containing at least 13 mol%, based on the whole polyester resin component, of at least one monomer capable of forming an amorphous component. The heat-shrinkable polyester film has specific heat shrinkage characteristics and exhibits specific mechanical characteristics after heat shrinking treatment. The film can be produced by a sequential biaxial orientation process comprising a longitudinal orientation step, a intermediate heat treatment step, a positive cooling step, a transverse orientation step, and a final heat treatment step.
