The patent concerns a mechanical reducer preferably intended for use in wheelchairs with a view to reducing the effort required of the wheelchair user on slopes, including means to prevent the wheelchair from moving backwards. The invention can also be applied to other mechanical systems - such as goods lifts, domestic clothes lines and similar, and hose reels - in which the torque-multiplying effect of the system coupled to the holdback brake is a desirable feature. The objective of this patent is to provide a mechanism that enables the wheelchair user to employ less force by opting to alter the rotation of the hand rims in relation to the chair wheel, such as to reduce the force required on slopes. |
