PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for fixing a vertical column for the assembly of a ship block are provided to maintain the quality of a ship by rapidly removing a lug and preventing damage to a vertical column. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for fixing a vertical column for the assembly of a ship block comprises a column jig (10) and a connection member (20). The column jig is detachably coupled to multiple vertical columns (2) vertically positioned on the deck (1) of a block and is connected to a hoist to support the vertical columns. The connection member is connected to the column jig and a lug (7) coupled to the bottoms of the vertical columns to lift up the vertical columns. The column jig comprises first and second lugs. The first lug is connected to a crane. The top of the connection member is connected to the second lug.
