<p>A radial flow non-return valve assembly comprises a housing 12 having a cylindrical wall 13 and a row of circumferentially spaced openings 16 in the wall to permit fluid to flow from an entrance side to an exit side of the wall. A cylindrical spring collar 18 of circular cross section is located on the exit side 14 of the wall. The resilience of the collar 18 acts to urge the collar 18 into contact with the exit side 14 of the wall 13 so as to obstruct the openings 16 when the fluid pressure at the exit side is equal to or greater than the pressure on the entrance side. The collar 18 is deformed when the fluid pressure at the entrance side exceeds the fluid pressure at the exit side to uncover the openings 16 to allow fluid to flow through the openings in the wall. One circumferential end of the collar 18 is anchored to the housing to leave a single span of the collar free to separate from the exit side 14 of the wall 13, the length of which span extends over at least 60% of the circumferential length of the exit side of the wall.</p> |
