<p>A flue protection device 10 comprises a housing 12 that accommodates a portion of a flue 14. The housing is attachable to a structural element such as an external wall 22 of a building so as to cover a portion of the flue extending from the wall. The housing is preferably formed from panels 16 of sheet aluminium or aluminium framing portions (13, figure 3) and includes at least one ventilation aperture 18, which can be covered with aluminium mesh 20 or provided as louvers (figure 3). Ideally the housing is mounted onto the wall by screws 26 that pass through screw-holes in attachment portions 24 of the housing. The attachment portions can have a planar surface 12a so as to fit closely to the wall. The device protects the flue from vandalism and blockage by debris falling from the building, for example during renovation such as rendering of external walls.</p> |
