The method involves receiving objects (9) in a retainer (72) of an object depositor (71). The objects are passed into a filter rod strand (1) of a tobacco processing industry. A filling status of the retainer is checked between the objects receiving and passing steps. A predeterminable number of objects are conveyed from adjacent retainers to the strand before the passing step when a missing object is checked. A defective object and the predeterminable number of objects are conveyed from the adjacent retainers to the strand before the passing step when the defective object is checked. An independent claim is also included for an object depositor.
