The method involves providing a separation apparatus (10) comprising several plates (1-5) which are connected to one another in series, for separating gas mixture (G). The mixture of water and xenon gas (G') is guided to form gas hydrate (H) in counterflow to gas mixture, so that the xenon gas in gas hydrate and the krypton gas (G'') are intercalated in the individual plates. The gas mixture enriched with the krypton gas is removed, and the xenon gas is removed from sump (30) in the form of gas hydrate.
