PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress blackening and white turbidity of a light emission tube at a periphery of a cathode electrode, and to achieve flash illumination repeatedly 200,000 times or more under a requested illumination condition.SOLUTION: A xenon flash lamp 10 is provided with a cathode electrode 22, having a columnar tungsten base 24 and a columnar sintered chip 32 arranged coaxially in contact with a tip side of the tungsten base 24, at an end of a light emission tube 11 made of quartz glass. The sintered chip 32 is formed by impregnating a void of a high melting metal sintered body with an easy-electron-radiation substance and vitrifying them, and its diameter is larger than a diameter (d) of the base 24. It is preferred that the ratio (D/d) of a diameter D of the sintered chip 32 to the diameter (d) of the base 24 is 1.1 to 2.0 and the ratio (L/n) of an electrode axial length of the sintered chip 32 to an electrode axial length of the base 24 is 1.0 to 2.5. |
