PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photovoltaic device and a light utilization device that are capable of utilizing a function of a wavelength conversion layer more than conventional.SOLUTION: A photovoltaic device includes a wavelength conversion part and a photovoltaic part in this order from an upstream side in an advancing direction of incident light. The wavelength conversion part includes a semiconductor quantum dot containing layer and a rare earth phosphor containing layer in this order from the upstream side in the advancing direction of the incident light, with the semiconductor quantum dot containing layer containing a semiconductor quantum dot and a dot holding material, which holds the semiconductor quantum dot, and the rare earth phosphor containing layer containing a rare earth phosphor and a phosphor holding material, which holds the rare earth phosphor. The photovoltaic part contains a semiconductor material that performs photoelectric conversion on the incident light and light whose wavelength is converted by the wavelength conversion part, with a refractive index of the phosphor holding material being larger than that of the dot holding material and being smaller than that of the semiconductor material. A light utilization device is produced by replacing the photovoltaic part of the photovoltaic device with a light utilization part containing a luminescence material and setting the refractive index of the phosphor holding material larger than that of the dot holding material and smaller than that of the luminescence material. |
