<p>A block for use in apparatus for casting metal is disclosed, with the block comprising multiple nozzles. Each nozzle can comprise an inlet part 9 and an adjacent removable outlet part 5, with each part comprising a bore 9A & 5A. The bores 9A & 5A taper along their lengths and for each nozzle the bore 9A of the inlet part 9 matches the bore 5A of the outlet part 5 where the two parts 9 & 5 are adjacent to each other. Alternatively each nozzle can be a unitary body (20, Fig. 3) with a tapered bore (20A, Fig. 3). Also disclosed is a blank nozzle outlet part (7, Fig. 4) which has no bore, a refractory gasket (17, Fig. 3) which is located on the top surface of a nozzle when it is in use and against which a stopper rod 19 can be lowered to stop metal flow and a refractory plug 14 with a metal tube 15 cast into its centre. The plug 14 is located on the top surface of a nozzle with the tube 15 lying along the bore and protruding from the bottom of the nozzle where it is secured by a wedge, gas spring or a nut 16.</p> |
