FIELD: chemistry.SUBSTANCE: method involves adding a composition of a hydrogen sulphide scavenger to asphalt. The hydrogen sulphide scavenger contains a polyaliphatic amine of formula 1: HNRNH - (RNH)- H (1), where R is an aliphatic radical and ranges from 0 to about 15 and a catalyst of formula 2: RRRRNX(2), where each of R, R, Rand Rindependently represents an alkyl group containing 1-20 carbon atoms, a hydroxyalkyl group containing 1-20 carbon atoms, or an aryl group containing 6-20 carbon atoms and X represents a halide or methyl sulphate.
